‘I’ve been working since the age of 14 to help my family make ends meet. In my prior job as cutter, there were some months in the year when I did not receive pay if the factory did not have enough work. Now I am glad to be receiving a guaranteed wage and benefits. Life is so much better. I can support my family. My parents live with me six months in a year. My children are in school and I am glad they will get a good education’.

“The first time we received the fair trade premium we were excited and energized to have payment directly from the consumers. It inspired us to work harder and more sincerely in the following years. I feel lucky that I was selected to represent the workers in the Fair Trade Committee. We help decide how to invest or divide the premiums”.

“I like that by working to make good products, we are also able to help our families and each other. The past four years of premiums have really helped my family. I was able to fix my roof. I’ve invested in savings. As my two daughters grow, they will need funds for furthering their education. I want to thank Fair Trade consumers for helping us improve our lives.”

Since then, I’ve put my premiums into savings for future, which is what a lot of workers favor helping themselves in the long term.
